Special Mention
We would also like to mention those agencies, organizations and companies which have had a tremendous amount of influence in our success:
California Association for Coordinated Transportation (CalACT) -- after a number of workshops and a member survey, the CalACT Board of Directors made the insurance crisis of the mid-80's a priority by forming and sponsoring the Steering Committee that created NPU. (See more about NPU's roots on the History page.)
Peter Steinert, Program Manager for the Department of Mass Transportation (Caltrans) submitted a proposal to the Federal Government (Urban Transportation Special Projects Program) resulting in a grant for $60,000 that funded the feasibility study that lighted the way for the pool's development.
Phil Buchannan, President of Curtis Day & Co., loaned us $50,000 for seed money and bought the Steering Committee a decent meal. Curtis Day was our first brokerage for excess coverage.
Paratransit, Inc. -- provided the Steering Committee with administrative services and loaned us a staff person, Katherine Adcock, who eventually became our first Executive Director. They are a founding member of both the VIP and the WCG.
Greg Trout, of Arm Tech -- provided us with our initial actuarial studies that set the foundation for our pool.
